Speak like an Argentinian
Argentina’s official language is Spanish although the Argentine’s call it ‘Castellano’ (Castilian). Learn some of the handy (and some just a bit silly) Argentinean phrases & words below to give you a head start on your vacation:
- Churrasco
Steak – something you must definitely try once in Argentina. They are famed for them! - Chorizo
Sausage. This word may familiar to you if you like sausages! - Vino tinto
Red wine! Another must-try, Argentina is a prime wine grower and producer. - Mate
A tea which is the Argentine beverage. - El boliche
The Argentine’s love to party, no doubt you’ll be visiting an el boliche while there; a bar or nightclub. - Chau
Good-bye or see you. Comes from the Italian ‘ciao’. - Boludo
Jerk, or idot. Taxi drivers yell this often during bouts of road rage! - Che
Hey, yo, dude, or man. Often used to get someone’s attention. - Milonga
A dance club where people dance the Argentine Tango. - Baboso
A ‘skirt-chaser’ (thought this is also applied to women), someone crazy about the opposite sex.
