1. What does the airline consider a “group”?
   Most airlines consider a group to be at least 10 or more passengers traveling together.
 
2. How soon should I start looking for flights?
Most airlines have their schedules posted 330 day in the future and we would be more than happy to check rates if schedules are available at that time. We recommend inquiring at least 9 months in advance of your travel dates, as this is when you will typically find the best rates. Waiting too close to departure can result in the possibility of limited availability and a higher fare.
 
3. How do I request a group quote from STA Travel? 
   Complete the online Group Request Form, call 800.0363.2580 or email solutions@statravel.com. Be prepared to provide your travel dates, number of seats, departure and arrival cities for any flights. Do you have a specific budget, flexible dates/times or any other specific requirements? Let us know. Your group will be assigned to a dedicated Groups Logistics Specialist (GLS) who will contact you within 24 hours.
 
4. What are the benefits of a group contract?
   Contracted group fares allow all passengers traveling together to pay the same fare and secure the same itinerary. This also means that should delays and cancellations arise, the group will be accommodated together whenever possible, rather than being sent on alternative flights and being forced to separate.
5. Why do I receive a contract?
After your quote has been confirmed, your GLS will send you a contract for your trip, which will include the guaranteed base fare, unless otherwise stated. Read and review all due dates for your group: Deposit, commitment deadline, passenger details, and final payment dates. Missed deadlines can result in penalties or loss of group space. Air and Land components of a trip may have separate due dates and rules. Be sure to thoroughly read through the contract and ask your STA Travel GLS if you have questions.
 
6. Why is group pricing different from individual ticket pricing?
   Group airfare can sometimes be at a higher rate than single tickets. Airlines do not offer bulk discounts for multiple tickets in the way consumers are used to. Airfare works in a ladder system, meaning that once the lowest cost tickets sell out, prices increase to the next fare level. Group airfare is negotiated as an average of the current available fares based upon the number of passengers in your group. This means everyone pays the same fare rather than having to pay substantially more than others for the same itinerary.
 
7. Do you coordinate more than group airfare?
Yes! We are a full service travel agency and have access to tons of great group discounts from hotels to customized tours. Just let your travel advisor know what you are looking for!
 
8. What is the commitment deadline for contracted airfares?
   After a certain date the airline requires the group to commit to the number of seats being held, otherwise they will penalize you for seats you do not use. The commitment deadline varies depending on airline, and can be anywhere between 30 - 90 days prior to departure.
