Round the World – Barcelona

With the year coming to a close, you might be thinking New Year, new you. Or perhaps, more likely, new year, new adventures to embark on! Whether you’re wanting to tick off your ever-increasing bucket list, visit friends and family, or are just plain nosy and want to know where we would go on the ultimate ‘Big Trip’.

We thought travel inspo couldn’t get much better than this, but we’ve been experimenting with a UK tech start up, who are dividing the WHOLE word into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares, and assigning each square a unique 3 word address.

Flinders Street Station? We think you mean decide.chair.tribe We’ll see you outside the London Eye.

A picture tells 47,727 miles of stories. A film highlights it in 120 seconds. We sum in up in three words…

First stop, believer.faded.rush. It’s time to let the video do the talking…

1. Tapas, tapas and more tapas!

Tapas but not like you know it… Barcelona is all about the Pintxos! Beautiful, bite-sized delights served on top of crusty bread. Grab a toothpick and pick away at these lip-smacking morsels. You’ll be charged for the number of toothpicks used at the end of the meal – so get pick happy. Euskal Etxea is one of the best spots in town for Pintxos. So pull up a bar stool, pick up a pick and get stuck into some ham empanadillas – buen provecho!

2. Get to know Gaudi

Obviously an absolute MUST do in Barcelona. Get to know Gaudi and take time to admire the city’s modernista architecture. First stop: the Sagrada Familia, Gaudi’s most famous work, a spectacular church both inside and out. Next up: Park Guell a series of gardens that look as though they are straight out of a fairy tale. Finally: La Pedrera, this building literally has NO straight lines and is a listed UNESCO heritage site. You just can’t beat a day of Gaudi sightseeing!

3. Go mountain climbing

Probably not the first thing you think of when heading to Barcelona, but trust us it’s worth it. Put your trainers on and get ready to head up the majestic Montjuïc mountain. It’s a bit of a climb but that means less tourists – ideal! If the stunning views and gorgeous natural surroundings aren’t enough, you can also check out the buildings from the 1992 Olympic Games. Right at the top you’ll find the Olympic Stadium and Jardi Botanic – head up at dusk and you’ll experience the best Spanish sunset EVER!

OK so who exactly are

Basically these guys are on a mission to make the world a more efficient, less frustrating and safer place. How exactly are they doing that? They are addressing the world with a unique combination of just 3 words. So forget postcodes and co-ordinates, the whole world is mapped by 3mx3m square and each square (all 57 trillion of them) has been pre-allocated a fixed & unique 3 word address. Hence ‘Believer. Faded. Rush.’ at the start of the video. Starting to make sense now?

what 3 words

Why though?
Because around 75{1e29904c885515873022ed5b62c6c7d923686363a219a3c356dc5ccea4ad6161} of the world is addressed inconsistently, parcels, letters aren’t being delivered, tourist attractions or places aren’t being found and people are getting lost. Three words give the world the ability to talk about precise locations as simply as possible.

Simple. As. That.
