US passport holders require a visa to enter Brazil, you must obtain a visa from your nearest Brazilian Embassy or consulate prior to your departure, immigration authorities will refuse entry to Brazil to anyone not possessing a valid visa. Proof of sufficient funds might just be requested on arrival so make sure you have enough dosh!
Brazil doesn't currently have any working vacation agreements with other countries but there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer.
