What are Carbon Offsets?
Carbon Offsetting is a simple, non-compulsory way to counteract the greenhouse gasses that contribute to climate change and global warming, by choosing to buy carbon credits & offset your carbon emissions when you fly anywhere, within Australia or overseas.
Carbon Offsets basically enables you to help neutralise the pollution that your aeroplane flight generates, by funding programs that create or clean air somewhere else on the planet! We've teamed up with Origin Energy, who fund programs such as preventing deforestation, investing in solar energy, and planting trees to help keep our planet clean and green!
How does it work?
When you choose to buy carbon credits, here’s what happens:
- Simply advise your STA Travel agent that you want to offset your trip
- We calculate the distance of the trip and the tonnes of pollution your flight will make
- You cover your trip with enough carbon credits to neutralise your flight's calculated carbon emissions
- In conjunction with Origin Energy, we invest your carbon credits in carbon reduction programs, so that for every tonne of greenhouse gas caused by your flight, a tonne of greenhouse gas will be prevented from being produced somewhere else
- You feel bloody fantastic because you’ve made a positive change to the environment!
Who does all the hard work?
We invest your carbon credits into Origin Energy’s Carbon Offsets program:
- Origin Energy uses carbon credits to fund a variety of programs that reduce greenhouse gases. These including tree planting in NSW, waste composting in WA and investing in energy reducing technology in Yellowbank, Queensland
- Regardless of the program, you can be sure that for every tonne of greenhouse gas that your flight produces, a tonne of greenhouse gas is prevented from being produced somewhere else on the planet!
