Why South Africa?

Cape Point

There aren’t too many places where you can go elephant spotting one day and sample world-class wines the next. Come to think of it, South Africa might hold that particular claim all to itself.

South Africa combines the grandeur of the natural world with the best bits of the human world to create quite possibly the most amazing holiday destination on earth. Let us explain why…

You’ll eat and drink like royalty

South Africa is fast becoming renowned as a world-leading wine producing region and for good reason. Try it for yourself. The Constantia wine region, just out of Cape Town, has been making wine since 1684 and has 8 wineries open to the public.

The range of local food is too broad to describe here, but try a Kwarta – the Soweto term for a half-loaf filled with chips and hot sauce.

It will get your heart pumping …
If you’re into white water rafting, paragliding or mountain biking you won’t be short of things to do in South Africa.

… and take your breath away
South Africa’s scenic wonders are legendary. From Table Mountain to God’s Window, the mountains, forests, coasts and deserts provide an endless array of hiking opportunities

The sun’s always shining
The average temperature in Durban in July is 22 degrees Celsius. And that’s the middle of winter!

It won’t cost you the earth
We’re all looking to save money at the moment, so you’ll be pleased to know that South Africa is a very affordable destination, especially when you take advantage of STA Travel’s airfare, accommodation and tour options. You can live the high life, without it leaving a hole in your wallet.

They’ve got the football next year
Heard of the World Cup? Well next year it’s in South Africa – so if you’re into the beautiful game, make sure you’re there in 2010.

Oh, and there are some animals there
Kruger National park – South Africa’s premier game reserve - is the same size as Wales. That’s probably where the similarity ends. Considered to be the most bio-diverse game reserve on Earth, it’s home to lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants and hippos.
