There is currently a huge surplus of jobs in Australia, particularly in Queensland and Western Australia, which means that backpackers can now work in some amazing places.  Instead of saving money before they leave home, UK travellers can now apply for a two year working visa, to help them make the most of their trip down under.

Measures to attract people to work in the iron ore mines in Western Australia by offering huge salaries with free food and accommodation, have left both States with plenty of vacancies in the service industries.

Not only are there plenty of jobs available but the salaries and perks are attractive too.  Casual work within the tourism and hospitality trade, for example, can pay as much as £12 an hour and may include free or subsidised accommodation.  The visa allows workers to work full-time, part-time or on a casual basis, which makes it a great way to have fun in the sun, while gaining some valuable work experience.

Work is available in various professions from hotel or bar work to working on fruit farms or boat charters.  Examples include jobs in bars on Dunk and Hayman Island off Queensland's coast, working in a cafe in Broome or a boat charter along the Swan River in Perth.

The Working Holiday Visa allows UK residents between 18 and 30 years old, who are already on a year long working visa, to apply for a second Working Holiday Visa if they have taken up seasonal work for at least three months in a regional area of Australia.
