When do I need to start planning?

There are no set rules about when to start making arrangements for sending your belongings back home, but it is in your interest not to leave it until the last few days. Get a quote about 2-3 weeks before you actually want to send your stuff and if you want to go ahead, you would receive the necessary cartons (if required) to your home so you can pack up and get it collected in plenty of time. From there, you can have peace of mind it will all be waiting for you at the other end.


What about packing?


This is very important and needs attention. The single biggest mistake is packing too many items (particularly heavy books) into one box. A single carton should weigh a maximum of 30 kilos as it is safer, and no more expensive, to use two smaller cartons than one large carton when they are full of books. Electrical items such as computers and hi-fi equipment are usually safer when packed in their original boxes if you still have them. These boxes can be disguised at a cost of £1 per box. Similarly, suitcases and bags should be locked securely to protect the contents. If not there is a large stock of packing materials for protection such as bubble wrap and polystyrene chips. Providing common sense is used your goods should travel and arrive safely. Do not mark on any of the crates what is inside them so that your belongings remain safe.


How long will it take?


This depends on the method of transportation you select. When you have decided which method you prefer we will be able to give you estimated transit times. Unlike some freight handlers, we do not hold goods for 2-3 months until we have a larger payload to end off. Airfreight takes approximately 1 week with sea freight taking longer.


How will I know when my goods arrive?


You will be advised when we expect your goods to be shipped and more importantly when they are likely to arrive throughout your booking process. You will be provided with the name of the carrying vessel or flight number and the bill of landing number or airway bill number. Wherever possible you will also get the name, address and telephone number of the local contact at your destination that will be able to assist you on any local procedures. Everyone who provides an e-mail address will receive an e-mail with complete Airfreight and Shipping details (including arrival date, contact name and phone number at the destination, and reference number). It is advisable that you are at the destination to arrange customs clearance as some countries will only allow the owner to clear customs. The shipment can be held in the UK for up to 1 month free of charge to allow the owner to arrive at the destination to arrange customs clearance.


Do you provide a collection and delivery service?


Yes. There is a FREE collection and delivery service to many areas in the UK and a nominal charge will be made elsewhere as listed below. This is limited to one delivery and one collection per person. Subsequent deliveries and collections will incur a small charge. Normally just 2 days notice is needed to arrange a delivery of boxes or a collection from your residence, however such is the level of requests at the end of the summer term it is advisable to allow an hour of flexibility either side of the booked time. ALL universities and colleges are served on a regular basis.

Most other Yorkshire locations including Hull, York and Sheffield, Manchester, Newcastle, Durham, Sunderland & Middlesborough -£20.00
All other areas approx £10.00 per box with a minimum of £20.00


The nationwide collection partner is Initial Citylink. Collections are made Monday-Friday between 1pm and 4pm. Citylink collect the packages and bring them back overnight. We receive them the following working day and will weigh and measure the packages and inform you of the cost. You do not give the driver any documents or money.
