How It All Starts
The World Traveler Internship 2008 starts with a 4-day boot camp at The Travel Channel Academy! (Ha! Your jaw just dropped! We saw it.) The Travel Channel’s experts will teach the art of storytelling (it’s a lot harder than you might think) as well as shooting and editing video. You’ll get a solid handle of what you’ll be doing for the next three months. This is the perfect time to work out the kinks and get comfortable working with your camera to create a polished final product. This boot camp is also an excellent opportunity to establish relationships with The Travel Channel peeps so when it comes time to apply for a job, you’re not just another resume tape.

Rome to Venice via the Adriatic Sea
For the second leg of internship, you’ll be exploring a part of Europe relatively untouched by tourism until recently. Your tour is “Adriatic Voyager,” which will take you from Rome to Venice via Greece, Albania, Montenegro, and Croatia with our friends at Topdeck! This 13-day adventure will introduce you to cities just starting to gain popularity among student travelers. Kind of like Prague experienced just a few years ago. Dubrovnik, Tirana, Herceg, and Zadar are all stops on the itinerary. Might want to work on your pronunciations beforehand.
By now you’ve settled into the travel groove. You’re feeling good. You’ve done Europe. Got a ton of stuff to share. Produced a couple of good videos for http://www.statravel193.com/ and blogged about everything so far. This internship is going well. It’s about to get really good because you’re heading to Asia!

China to Vietnam
You’ll be exploring China to Vietnam on “Rural Colors of Asia” with our friends at Intrepid. Be prepared to meet unforgettable locals, see breathtaking scenery, and develop a better understanding of the unique differences between the countries and cultures in this part of the world. Starting in Hong Kong, you’ll make your way with your tour group to mainland China, to Guiyang, then on to Kunming, Sapa and finally Hanoi. Careful, this leg could change your life. Rachel (Intern 07) loved her time in Thailand and experienced such a deep connection with the people and the culture that she didn’t actually want to come home. Being around peoples who are so authentic, friendly and deeply spiritual can really change you – you may just grow up a bit. (psst- that’s a reallllyy good thing. We promise.)
Now that you’re in touch with your inner self, time to let loose and see what all the fuss is about in the land Down Under!
Sydney and New Zealand
You’ll enjoy a 4-day break in Sydney, courtesy of our friends at Connections Adventures.
Use this free time to check out everything you’ve ever wanted to see in this incredible city, like the Sydney Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Bondi (BOND-eye) Beach. Oz, as we like to call, is just an incredible destination for student travelers. Just remember that while you may look great with a tan, the sun is stronger here so use sun screen liberally.
Fresh from that R&R, you’re heading southeast (a short hop) to New Zealand – land of extreme sports – for “Southern Explorer Reverse” with Connections Adventures! You’ll discover why students l-o-v-e coming here. It’s just beautiful and there’s a ton to do. Christchurch, Lake Ohau, Milford Sound, Queenstown, Fox Glacier, Flock Hill, and back to Christchurch – all part of your week-long tour around South Island. It’s one of the 2 islands that make up New Zealand. The other is, um, North Island. Makes sense.

Then you’re off to sail the Galapagos Islands. Yes, sail! "Voyage Galapagos" takes you on an adventure off the coast of Ecuador. Sounds so intriguing and exotic doesn’t it?
