(DALLAS – Aug. 10) STA Travel, the worldwide experts in student travel, is accommodating customers looking to change travel plans in reaction to this morning’s terror threat.
For passengers wanting to change travel plans, STA Travel is prepared to handle itinerary changes on a case-by-case basis. Contact your local STA Travel branch or the STA Travel Call Center (800) 505-1940 to inquire about changing flight itineraries or trip plans. Passengers must still contact the Airline directly prior to departure to reconfirm their flight itinerary, departure times, and any further restrictions such as carry on luggage.
All STA Travel customers who purchased travel insurance prior to August 9th 2006 are qualified for Trip Delay coverage which has a maximum benefit limit of $500. Those who have a flight cancelled or delayed as a result of the airport closures are entitled to up to $500 for missed, prepaid land/sea arrangements and/or additional transportation and accommodation expenses to catch up to your trip. Those who miss their flight (which took off on time) as they did not leave enough time to clear security and/or customs will not be covered for Trip Delay reimbursement.
As the terrorist plot was uncovered and no act(s) of terrorism took place as of today, there will be no coverage in this instance under the STA Travel plan for either Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption.
Additionally, part (vii) of the Trip Cancellation/Trip Interruption's coverage would not be applicable as this does not fall under the specifically named covered reasons for scheduled public transport cancellations which are "riot, civil commotion, strikes, hijacking, natural disasters, motor or railway accidents."
"We have not experienced a significant cancellation of previously booked travel to any regions involved in the terror threat. Our customers, primarily students and young adults, continue to seek the rewarding experience of global travel. STA Travel's immediate focus is on accommodating our travelers who have been inconvenienced by airport and airline delays and cancellations,” said Scott Hyden, STA Travel North America president.
