This would have to be my first morning inJapan. I hadn't slept well. I groggily opened my eyes and scanned the room in the daylight only to discover a gigantic hairy spider the size of a grapefruit on the wall. I ran out of my room screaming "kuma". The conversation went like this... weary traveler: "KUMA!" wise one: "kuma?" weary traveler: "KUMA." wise one: "KUMA!?" wise & weary : "KUMA!" I had inadvertantly used a similar sounding but radically different meaning noun. Kuma means bear while kumo means spider. I kid you not, someone ran into the room with a handgun, ok maybe it was a pellet gun or something but it LOOKED like a handgun. When it was discovered I had meant only to say spider, a "professional" was called in to handle the situation. |
My ultimate backpacking trip would include climbing, biking, sailing, and diving..... with my dog in tow. Ooo and spelunking. (I'm still in the research phase of exactly where this would all take place) |
