Days 1-2 Ho Chi Minh City
The exciting energy of Ho Chi Minh City is bound to put a spring in your step. Why not soak it up while sipping on a cocktail at a rooftop bar? There is also time to delve into the fascinating world of the Viet Cong guerillas at the nearby Cu Chi Tunnels and take a cyclo tour of the city's sights including the War Remnants Museum.
Days 3-4 Hoi An
The laid-back riverside town of Hoi An exudes a timeless air. Be tempted by the many tailor shops, art galleries and fantastic local restaurants, or head out into the countryside on a bicycle.
Days 5-6 Hue
Head into the clouds as we drive over the spectacular Hai Van Pass and down into the picturesque fishing village of Lang Co. Royal capital under the Nguyen emperors and site of some of the fiercest fighting of the Vietnam-American conflict, Hue provides a fascinating insight into Vietnamese history.
Day 7 Hanoi
We pay our respects to Ho Chi Minh at his Soviet-style mausoleum, built in the midst of Ba Dinh Square, where he first declared Vietnam independent in 1945. Uncover a different side to the city on a wander through the crowded Old Quarter, where traders sell their wares the same way they've done for centuries.
Day 8 Halong Bay
An overnight stay on Halong Bay is a memorable experience. The thousands of limestone islands emerging from the calm, clear waters of the bay are the perfect backdrop for relaxing, swimming and dining on fresh seafood.
Days 9-10 Hanoi
Return to Vietnam's gracious capital, where there is time to take a cyclo ride through the wide boulevardes of the French Quarter, peruse the local galleries and silk shops along Hang Gai, or relax with a cafe sua da (iced milk coffee) in a hole-in-the-wall cafe.
