How Trek America is working toward responsible tourism:

Responsible Travel Guidelines: tour leaders learn how to conserve water, dispose of waste, minimize the impact of campfires, and respect the locals.
Code of Conduct: people on the tours learn about their destination, learn the language, buy locally-made products, conserve precious resources, leave no trace, travel smart, avoid giving money or candy to children, and become 'carbon neutral'.
Rely on locals: guides, transportation, food, accommodation and activities. Also, Trek America contributes to local charities and projects.
Off-set carbon emissions that tour vehicles emit into the environment via tree-planting projects. Trek America is also in the process of evaluating its fuel consumption.
Future progress is of constant concern for Trek America. It's focused on conserving at its home office, recyling on the road, and reducing its number of printed brochures.
