The Project

STA Travel supports Planeterra’s Peru Streetkids Project in Cuzco, Peru, the neighboring town to the popular Machu Picchu, an attraction to which we send 100s of our young travelers every year. The Peru Streetkids Project is run by volunteer teachers and social workers who offer impoverished children warm meals, help with their schoolwork and life-skills coaching, including sewing, cooking, music, and English. |

What past volunteers have to say about the Peru Streetkids Project
|
Lois Tallas volunteered with The Peru Streetkids Project last spring. She spent 3 weeks exploring Peru then a week working with the kids. “This volunteer experience was one of the highlights of my trip. Here, children and young people of diverse backgrounds and needs have many opportunities to play, to share and to learn skills to improve their quality of life. I experienced students learning with qualified teachers and counselors as well as taking part in programs such as meal planning and preparation, sewing, embroidery, leatherwork, learning English, crafts, public speaking, music, dance, and many other activities. The students and staff were very welcoming and most grateful of my efforts to help out in the school. |

Jenna and Kristen Mosher raised almost $3000 for the Peru Streekids Project and donated a ton of toothbrushes from their dentist. The sisters wanted to help a needy organization in Peru, where they were planning to visit with their family. "We were invited to tour the center in Cuzco and to help serve Christmas rolls and hot chocolate…at Christmastime. We did not know what to expect and we were a little nervous but our experience that night was so amazing! Seeing the kids’ faces and getting a big smile when we gave them a roll made us really happy! It was a great Christmas!” |
