Bangkok Floating Market

Sawadee...

Thailand is a beautiful country offering big cities, ancient villages and tropical islands!

While in Bangkok, check out the Floating Market (pictured), Grand Palace, Wat Po, Khao San Road and Night Market! When you're shopping for souvenirs, be sure to haggle! The price the street vendors ask for is NOT the price to pay. And, if you like Thai food but not the spiciness, just say, "No spicy."

To say "Hello"

  • "Sawadeeka" (sah-WAH-dee-kaw) if you're female
  • "Sawadeekrab" (sah-WAH-dee-krahb) if you're male

To say "Thank You"

  • "Ka poon ka" (kah poon kah) if you're female
  • "Ka poon krab" (kah poon krahb) if you're male

How are You Going to Get There?

First thing is to figure out when you want to go and how much the airfare will be. Our excellent student airfares below are priced to give you the best deal so you won't be spending all of your money just on your plane ticket.

What's different about our plane tickets is what we call STA Travel's exclusive Blue Ticket. It will be the most flexible or cheapest ticket for travel on the world's leading airlines. Plus, with our Blue Ticket, if you need to change your travel dates, we won't charge you an arm and a leg like you'll have if you deal directly with an airline.

Remember that flights to mainland Asia can run pretty long so make sure you have a few books to read and your iPod is stocked up with your favorite music.

One of the great things about visiting Thailand during the summer is that you can pack reallllly light: swim suits, shorts, tanks, flip-flops, sunscreen and camera. Literally. Not only are flip-flops the unofficial footwear of summer, they come in really handy when you have to take them off and put them on frequently, as you will in Thailand because you don't wear shoes indoors.

This is just a sample of the airfares available for summer travel. Don't see your departure city on the list? No biggie. Just check for it by clicking the orange button.

Where Will You Stay?

A ton of places to stay are available along Khao San Road, which is packed with student backpackers, shops, restaurants, and street vendors! It's also within easy walking distance of the the major tourist attractions, like the Grand Palace and Wat Po.

Hostels, in case you aren't familiar, are communal accommodations geared toward backpackers and those travelers who want to sleep for cheap. Most hostels offer single- and mixed-gender dorm rooms that sleep (bunkbed) anywhere from 4 to 40 people. Bathrooms and showers may be shared among several rooms. Many hostels offer additional amenities such as a communal kitchen, lockers or baggage storage, internet, TV lounge, or a tour desk. Hostels offer a fantastic way of meeting people from around the world.

If you've got haunting memories of freshman year dorms, then you'll probably prefer hotels. It's the same concept as hotels here in the States, but are likely to be much smaller. If you're looking for something with all the amenities of an American hotel, then you need to choose at least a 3 Globe hotel. You can search STA Travel's wide variety of accommodations by clicking the orange button below.
