Think Cape Town

Cape Town

Visit Cape Town

Feeling adventurous? Then the big city of Cape Town will be right up your alley. Set in what has to be the most gorgeous setting for such a large city, Cape Town will offer you glorious beaches, amazing mountain scenery and one of the best nightlife experiences of your life.

How are you going to get there?

Think a flight to South Africa is out of your budget? Thanks to STA Travel, that's just not the case. Flights from the U.S. typically require a layover in a European city. There is a direct flight from New York City, but at 15 hours, it's the longest commercial flight in the world. Make sure that you allow yourself plenty of time to adjust to the altitude and the jetlag. You don't want to miss out on anything.  Check out STA Travel's amazing deals on airfare.

South Africa is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, but don't expect to dive right in to the water. No matter how hot it is outside, the water is bound to be ice cold. Get a wetsuit if you plan on taking advantage of the amazing surfing opportunities, or if you're making your way to Boulders Beach to swim with the penguins. Make sure you take the midnight full moon walk up Lion's Head to get an unforgettable view of Cape Town, Table Mountain and the ocean.

Where are you going to stay?

Ok, so the flight's covered. Now, we have to think about where you're going to crash. Chances are, after miles of sightseeing you're going to be interested in one thing  only... a bed. Hostels are perfect for that.

Not exactly sure what hostels are? Well, hostels are communal accommodations geared toward those travelers who want to sleep on the cheap. You can get a private room in some hostels, but accommodation is usually dormitory style with several beds to a room, sometimes co-ed. Bathrooms and showers are usually shared among several rooms. Many hostels offer additional amenities such as a communal kitchen, lockers or baggage storage,  Internet, TV lounge, or a tour desk.

If you're having bad flashbacks of freshman year in the dorms, then you probably prefer hotels.  Hotels vary around the world and most are much smaller than hotels that you are familiar with in the U.S. If you're looking for something with all the amenities of an American hotel, then you need to choose at least a 3-Globe hotel. You can search STA Travel's wide variety of accommodations by clicking the orange button below.

What do you want to do?

When you change up those dollars for your big South African adventure, expect to be dealing with South African Rand (ZAR). Exchange rates around the world vary day-to-day, so check the current rate before you travel so you have a good grasp on what you're spending. Check out our solution for seeing more, for less.
