So, you want to go reaaaaally far away this summer to the Land Down Under? Sydney is the perfect place to spend your summer vacation, and the perfect tipping off point for any Australian travels you have in mind. As the most populous city in Australia, you'll find Sydney a big-city marvel, with plenty to keep you occupied and exhilarated.

You can't visit Australia without first getting to grips with some lingo. We've outlined some of the most popular sayings in Australia, to help you blend in like a local.

• "She's apples" - means that everything is under control.
• "amber fluid"- Beer!
• "The Coathanger"- Sydney Harbor Bridge.
• "dead-set"- absolute, genuine.
• "cozzies"- a bathing suit.
• "skerrick"- a small amount.
• "arvo"- afternoon.

Don't forget that Australians are masters at shortening everything and slurring words together. It might be difficult to understand at first, but make a true effort to listen closely, and you'll be considered a bonzer mate.

Where are you going to stay?

Ok, so the flight's covered. Now, we have to think about where you're going to crash. Chances are, after miles of sightseeing you're going to be interested in one thing  only... a bed. Hostels are perfect for that.

Not exactly sure what hostels are? Well, hostels are communal accommodations geared toward those travelers who want to sleep on the cheap. You can get a private room in some hostels, but accommodation is usually dormitory style with several beds to a room, sometimes co-ed. Bathrooms and showers are usually shared among several rooms. Many hostels offer additional amenities such as a communal kitchen, lockers or baggage storage,  Internet, TV lounge, or a tour desk.

If you're having bad flashbacks of freshman year in the dorms, then you probably prefer hotels.  Hotels vary around the world and most are much smaller than hotels that you are familiar with in the U.S. If you're looking for something with all the amenities of an American hotel, then you need to choose at least a 3-Globe hotel.
