Sawasdee Bangkok Inn is in a great location if you want the hustle and bustle of Khao San Road. But the actual hotel is quite horrible, it smells distinctly like cat pee, you can hardly move in the room, the staff are completely disinterested in helping out, the hotel was difficult to find and the shower which was little more than a dribble and had no actual shower cubicle was aimed directly over the toilet leaving the sink and toilet seat sopping wet!!

It was central to the places I wanted to visit.
There was air conditioning.
I wondered if everywhere in Bangkok was of similar standard. I don't know.
When I arrived I was asked to produce a bond of $500 Baht for the key.I was not asked for a bond from any other accommodation. The room had just enough space for a double bed and TV. There was paint peeling off the roof of the room. There was one other small room with a toilet, shower, basin. I could have used all 3 at the same time. Both rooms looked unhygenic.
Of interest too was my taxi ride to Sawasdee. This was not of course to do with Sawasdee itself.Once I was out of customs the taxi company gave me a written note to tell me they would not pick me up for my return trip to the airport at the pre-arrranged time. They would pick me up later than agreed. When I protested they indicated I would need to ring a person whose phone number was on the letter. This concerned me as I don't speak Thai. In the end I asked Sawasdee to sort it out for me. They did so.
The taxi was a beautiful modern vehicle. However at 10pm it took 2 hours to get to Sawasdee and the driver stopped at a lane and walked me through about 5 lanes through who knows what to get to Sawasdee. As I found out in the morning, this was not necessary (we only needed to go down one lane). The return trip to the airport took 45 mins only at 4.30pm. I was concerned for my well-being while in the taxi.

The best thing about the hotel is that it such a good location, but you have to go down a side ally to get to it. We arrived at 2 o'clock in the morning at it was slightly daunting walking down the ally. Also, there wasn't that many other young people staying there. But the place was the cleanest we stayed in, in Thialand, and the breakfasts were nice.
