Break your UK - OZ long haul hell - take a pit stop at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi

Park Inn on Yas Island was cool, clean, comfortable, and importantly for me, close to the airport so I didn't have to stress about missing my connection (airport just a 7 minute taxi ride and under 20 dhirams). However, the hotel was far enough away to enjoy nice quiet surroundings, overlooking a lush green golf course, turquoise waters and a skyline silhouette of the city. Ferrari freaks can get their fix at nearby Ferrari World, but don't let this attraction put you off - the circuit is not in constant use!
A one-night stop off here helped break the horribly long flight from Manchester to Australia. It did the job perfectly; lovely comfortable bed and plenty of sleeping/relaxing/reading pool-side). With freely available bottled water and a plentiful buffet breakfast the hotel was very reasonably priced.
For those with more time, the hotel's free daily shuttle buses take you direct to the city. On my list for another time is a visit to the Grand Mosque and the marina at Abu Dhabi.
Would have loved to sample local cuisine in the restaurant - it was Mexican style. But I guess the hotel has to cater for more general tastes. However the buffet breakfast had a tasty selection of Middle Eastern delights to satisfy that craving.
The Radisson Blue (sister hotel) adjoins the hotel so you can wander into their glamourous pool area and use the hotel facilities if you so desire.
If, like me, a stopover is simply a necessary break from flying and not an opportunity to hit the tourist trail, Park Inn is a great retreat for some sleep, space, calm and very good service. I liked it enough to stay there twice and would stay again.
