They arranged for a free airport transfer, which was so reassuring as a single female traveller arriving late at night, knowing someone was already waiting to take me to the hostel took away a lot of the stress. The beds were clean and comfy and the plumbing worked well. There is internet access available free for guests and an Egyptian style breakfast is also included. Liked that the staff (thanks especoially to Peter) are happy to help in any way they can, providing directions to places of interest, info on tours and destinations, etc. Would have no hesitation staying at Australian Hostel again and would recommend it to other travellers. In fact, plan to stay here on my next trip to Cairo. I hope anyone who stays at this quirky little place realise that it is a hostel, and so don't expect 1000 thread count sheets like you would get at the Sheraton or Hilton Hotels, but compared to other hostels, Australian Hostel is one of the best ones I have ever stayed at: clean, cosy and comfy, communal lounge area, breakfast included, safe place to stay, great location as close to many things of interest, free internet access, free airport transfer if booking for multiple nights (conditions apply) and lovely staff.

The kind of people I met in the backpackers made it the best place that I stayed while abroad. It felt homely on my first night, that lounge makes for a sweet traditional style dining area :) Mad location central Downtown, close to awesome food places and shops. Good beds, great people & staff. Only let down is the view from the rooms, but when you are there you really won't care- it's the place to be for travellers in Cairo.
