The rooms were not the cleanest or the nicest looking but the people were friendly enough. Good kitchen facilities. The TV in the main lounge was nice. The staff were helpful but not overwhelmingly so.

Average Backpacker accommodation

<good points> Air conditioned room although it was not cool enough -it was very hot in Perth every day -around 35c. they would need a better air conditioner. handy location - close to city centre and shops -feedback hereafter- i paid NZD 110 per night for a double room (as single room wasn't available) but i found it actually AD 60 per night after arriving at the accommodation. i had paid in advance in NZ for 5 nights and i felt i wasted quite a lot of money even if the exchange rate was taken into consideration. when i asked STA travel agent to give me some options of accommodation in Perth, i was given three. one of them was out of Perth and one of the remaining two was a hotel accommodation which was about thirty dollars more expensive than Shiralee hostel. i therefore chose Shiralee Hostel without noticing it was a backpacker accommodation. (i did not know 'hostel' meant the same as backpacker's). i wanted it to be at least the same standard as the hostels in Auckland such as YMCA hostel or YWCA, but i would say it wasn't as good. i would suggest that STA offer other accommodation options to tourists as i found that there were quite a few accommodations in Perth that are affordable and probably of better quality.
