<good points>
Air conditioned room although it was not cool enough -it was very hot in Perth every day -around 35c. they would need a better air conditioner.
handy location - close to city centre and shops

i paid NZD 110 per night for a double room (as single room wasn't available) but i found it actually AD 60 per night after arriving at the accommodation. i had paid in advance in NZ for 5 nights and i felt i wasted quite a lot of money even if the exchange rate was taken into consideration.
when i asked STA travel agent to give me some options of accommodation in Perth, i was given three. one of them was out of Perth and one of the remaining two was a hotel accommodation which was about thirty dollars more expensive than Shiralee hostel. i therefore chose Shiralee Hostel without noticing it was a backpacker accommodation. (i did not know 'hostel' meant the same as backpacker's).
i wanted it to be at least the same standard as the hostels in Auckland such as YMCA hostel or YWCA, but i would say it wasn't as good.
i would suggest that STA offer other accommodation options to tourists as i found that there were quite a few accommodations in Perth that are affordable and probably of better quality.
