The Global- a review

There wasnt much to be honest, the free breakfasts and shower toilet facilities were crap, the kitchen seemed like one of those places youd get a chronic illness and because the hostel is at crossroads and next to a building site its incredibly noisy especially around 6.30am when the builders start working. A catch 22 situation as because there is no AC in ANY of the rooms and the portable fans that can be on offer (if you find one spare in a room being cleaned) do little moe than push warm air around, so the choices on offer are sweat or be woken up constantly however generally both will happen regardless. Oh and when i was there only 1/4 PC's work so theres often a long line to check your emails so if your booking into another hostel like i did (the Canadiana- 2 mins walk away and like another world!) be prepared to wait a while.

CN tower is a stones throw away and you wake up to a view of it in the morning and it all lit up when you go to sleep (if you ever do!) Serious good fun right in the entertainment district with a bar and beer garden that'll keep you having fun even if you don't fancy going out. You can stay up till very late every night and will feel a bit of a zombie if you don't head to bed early as it's 6am before you know it! Deejay is the best guy in the world on nights with a big grin to greet you as you roll through the front door each night, then get you a new one when you lock your room key in your room when you go to brush your teeth! Fantastic I spent a week there then headed to Niagara and had to come back for another weekend. Great city and the best party hostel in it!!!

The staff were firendly though there were ques at reception alot of the time. The patio/bar area was very livley and cool the nights I went there. I met alot of people there. It was my 'base' for my stay in Toronto and the location was great for me. I was travelling alone and felt it was safe and a safe location. I did a moose tour and the office was there so that was handy. To be honest my stay was enjoyable and I did like the atmosphere however.. Im going to write about the BAD things now Bathrooms - appalling!! Really bad. Building work looked as if it was going on but never saw any builders. Its as if they could not be bothered to finish the work in the bathrooms. Also the sinks were leaking. For one of the showers you had to get dressed in front of a window which looked out onto the street. No curtain or frosted glass. No air conditioning which I know is a luxtury but still. Carpets were a bit 'manky' and worn. Locker room was in the basement which was flooded and after it was clreared it smelled very damp. The lockers themselves looked as if they were bashed in and most of them did not work. Internet access - only one computer out of 3 was working and that was very slow. The fact that you have to out 2 dollars in the box and then bash it hard for it to work is not that great to be honest. There were always ques for the one computer as well. Not sure why a great Tour company like Moose is linked to a hostel like Global.
