Each itinerary varies depending on the needs of the community at any one time but will include the following elements: The Community Projects: In rural Kenya, around 70% of people are living below the poverty line and access to proper sanitation, clean drinking water, healthcare and an education are often limited or non-existent. The major feature of the 1-month Camp Kenya programme is the role you play in assisting with local community projects and it is likely that you will find this the most rewarding part of your programme. The core projects focus on education and initiatives that benefit the local schools and their constantly expanding classes. Project work may include building new classrooms or ablution blocks, constructing community housing, working to supply clean water to communities, teaching, desk building and much more. The main community camp is in the village of Muhaka, which is about half an hour from Diani Beach. The Wildlife Projects: Did you know that 25% of all of Africa¿s Game is located in East Africa? You will take part in a working safari at a wildlife sanctuary. The sanctuary is a community run conservation area and some of the other activities you get involved in may include habitat regeneration, environmental education at the local primary school and making elephant dung paper (much more fun than it sounds!) NB: NB: This project focuses on conservation to maximise benefits to all wildlife, therefore no hands on contact with wildlife is permitted.. The expedition also includes a Big Game Safari in one of Kenya's premier National Parks. The Environmental Projects: Kenya's coastline hosts forests with some of the highest levels of biodiversity in the world - but they are disappearing fast. You will get the opportunity to plant indigenous trees and educate local children and adults about the environment and its importance to their future. At Kaya Muhaka you will work with the local community to preserve and regenerate a sacred forest, which is home to the endangered Black and White Colobus Monkey. At the sanctuary you will plant indigenous hardwood trees to help reforest areas badly affected by logging and the charcoal trade. Adventure Options: There are loads of great adventures for volunteers to challenge themselves with. There are several mountains that volunteers can trek including Kilimanjaro (9 days - £1360), Mount Meru (6 days - £800) and Mount Kenya (7 days £750). PADI Open Water (5days - £430) and Advanced diving (3 days - £400). Kite surfing (available to book in country). All mountain trekking options must be added on to the end of the programme. Please consult Camps International to confirm departure dates.

This jam-packed adventure volunteer programme is honestly a non-stop string of highlights! But to break it down for you, this is what you should expect for your month away saving the world...
