Day 1 New York area / Buffalo

Meet your group this morning and turn your back on New York City to head into the beautiful scenery of ‘upstate' New York. If you ever wondered why spicy chicken wings are often called buffalo wings, given that buffalo are way too heavy to fly(!), then today provides the answer. It was here in the city of Buffalo, New York, that this delicious treat was invented back in 1964, and tonight you have the option of sampling them in their original birthplace, the Anchor Bar. Buffalo is bustling waterfront city situated on the eastern shores of Lake Erie, and you can dip into its thriving music scene this evening to provide you with ample entertainment.

Day 2 Niagara Falls / Toronto

Cross the Rainbow Bridge from the USA into Canada, and gaze your eyes on the crashing spectacle that is Niagara Falls where, outside the winter months, there's time for an optional cruise aboard_the fantastic ‘Maid of the Mist'. The boat takes you close to the base of the cascades and pretty much guarantees the poncho-less amongst you will get soaked! From here, skirt the shoreline of Lake Ontario around to the trendy city of Toronto. You have the option to visit the CN Tower to take in the superlative views over the lake and city skyline, or browse the high-fashion stores and cosy cafés on College and Queen Streets.

Day 3-4 Montreal

Though pretty much everyone here is fully bilingual, there are more French speakers in Montréal than any other city outside of Paris, which gives the city a distinctive European feel and a certain ‘je ne sais quoi'. Museums, galleries and nightclubs mix a cocktail of the best bits of both continents and the restaurants here rank with Canada's very best. Lose yourself in the vast ‘Underground City', some 30kms of shop-lined passageways linking the buildings of downtown, or climb to the summit of Montréal for a fantastic cityscape.

Day 5-6 Stowe

Cross back over the border into the US state of Vermont, whose name translates from the French as ‘green mountains'. During the winter, however, they're anything but green as the village of Stowe doubles as the ‘Ski Capital of the East', boasting a fantastic range of winter sports suitable for all levels of ability. Stowe remains a highlight during the summer months, too, with hiking and biking amongst the many outdoor adventures on offer. If you can't hit the slopes but are still hankering after something frozen, a visit to the original Ben & Jerry's ice cream factory should do the trick!

Day 7-8 Boston

Head from Vermont into Massachusetts to the city of Boston, for another slice of history with a walk along the ‘Freedom Trail'; it was here in 1773 that the infamous Boston Tea Party protest prepared the ground for what was to become the American revolution. If all that history's gone to your head, join us for a trip over to Cambridge to visit Harvard University, to see some of America's finest brains hard at work. In the evenings, grab a bite to eat at an Italian trattoria, some delicious microbrews at one of the city's Irish-themed pubs or head to the original ‘Cheers' bar as featured in the much-loved television programme from the 1980s and 1990s.

Day 9 New York area

Cut through the state of Connecticut as you head back to New York, where your tour comes to an end. For a storybook ending to a fabulous trip, we highly recommend adding on a night or two in New York City, to give you time to stroll along Fifth Avenue, cycle round Central park, hit the heights on the Highline and really get under the skin of this buzzing metropolis.
