Day 1 Cairo

Arrive at any time.

There are no activities planned until an evening welcome meeting. Additional Notes: If this is your first visit to Cairo, we highly recommend that you book an airport transfer (please refer to the joining instructions section of tour dossier for more information). Day 2 Cairo/Aswan (1B, 1D)

Tour the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx before a guided tour of the Egyptian Museum. Catch an overnight train to Aswan.

Head straight to the pyramids and soak in the history of these majestic structures. Later, visit the Egyptian Museum to see more ancient artifacts. In the evening, board an overnight train to Aswan. Day 3 Aswan (1B, 1D)

Explore Aswan before visiting a Nubian village and enjoy a home cooked dinner with a local family.

Enjoy some free time in the morning to browse the souk or walk along the Nile. Later, board a felucca (local boat) to reach Elephantine Island and visit a Nubian village. Walk around the small community, then enjoy a traditional dinner at a local home. Included Activities: Felucca Sail to Nubian Village

Day 4 Aswan (1B)

Spend the day exploring Aswan. Opt to visit the magnificent temples of Abu Simbel.

One of the most fascinating sights in the area is the Temple of Abu Simbel. There are two options for visiting it- overland or flight. Later, opt for a half-day tour of the Unfinished Obelisk, High Dam, and Philae Temple. Visit the modern Nubian Museum to learn more about Aswan's local people.

Day 5 Aswan/Kom Ombo (1B, 1L, 1D)

Sail the Nile on a felucca with a support boat. Sleep onboard under the stars.

Board the felucca and spend the rest of the day out on the river and a night under the stars. Included Activities: Felucca Overnight Sailing Excursion

Day 6 Kom Ombo/Luxor (1B)

Enjoy a guided visit Kom Ombo Temple before driving to Luxor. En route, visit the Temple of Edfu.

Day 7 Luxor (1B, 1L)

Travel by donkey and visit the Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Kings, and the Temple of Hatshepsut. Opt to visit the Temple of Karnak and Luxor Museum. After, visit the Planeterra-supported library and community education centre - feel free to bring alon

Cross to the West Bank and travel by donkey. Visit the massive 18m (59 ft)-high Colossi of Memnon, which is all that remains of an ancient temple. Descend down the narrow corridors and check out the tombs of the pharaohs at the Valley of the Kings. The Funerary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut literally seems to rise out of the surrounding limestone outcrops. Enjoy free time to explore Luxor; the Karnak Temple and Luxor Temple are both well worth a visit. Learn about the ancient art of embalming at world's only Mummification Museum and the small, but beautifully presented, Luxor Museum. Enjoy an included visit to a Planeterra-supported library and community education centre. This project provides early childhood education at a very low cost for locals, as well as adult literacy classes. If you would like to bring a donation, this project always accepts books in both English and Arabic to expand their library. Additional Notes: If you have pre-booked the Valley of the Kings Hot Air Balloon Ride you will be flying today. Day 8 Luxor/Dakhla Oasis (1B)

Head through the desert to the Dakhla Oasis. Wander the narrow alleyways or opt for a soak in the hot springs.

Today is a full travel day to reach Dakhla, one of the five oases situated in the Western Desert. Considered to be one of the most beautiful, it has a population of approximately 70,000 people spread out over 14 different villages, each with individual local identities and traditions. Wander the narrow alleyways of the atmospheric ancient mud citadel or head off on camel back and watch the sunset over the dunes. Opt to soak in one of the local hot springs. Day 9 Dakhla Oasis/White Desert (1B, 1L, 1D)

Visit the fascinating old village of Al-Qasr before camping out overnight amongst the spectacular rock formations of the White Desert.

Visit the old village of Al-Qasr, which has changed very little since medieval times. Wander the old area of town of traditional mud brick houses and winding alleyways. In the afternoon, continue to Farafra and transfer to 4x4 vehicles for the drive to the White Desert. This is paradise for amateur geologists with its impressive limestone formations shaped like giant mushrooms or animals. Spend the night camping out amidst the dramatic landscape. Additional Notes: Facilities at our campsite are very basic. Sleep in a large communal tent and enjoy a local dinner cooked over the fire. Mattresses and bedding are provided but it is a good idea to bring your own sleep sheet/sleeping bag liner. Bathroom facilities are au naturale. Day 10 White Desert/Bahariya Oasis (1B)

Continue on to Bahariya Oasis, enjoying the dramatic scenery along the way.

Journey to Bahariya Oasis, covering over 2,000sq km (1,243 sq mi). With tons of options in the area for the next day, start planning out your activities. Transport: 4x4 (9.00 hour(s))

Day 11 Bahariya Oasis (1B)

Enjoy a free day to explore the area. Opt to visit the Golden Mummies, English Mountain, or hot springs. Choose to explore the nearby Bawiti village.

Soak up the history of the Bahariya Oasis, famous for its monuments dating back to the New Kingdom and Roman times. The area has many cultural sights of interest and the nearby mountains make for excellent easy hikes. Opt for a jeep tour through the area to visit Bawiti village, the local museum, and the English Mountain. Stop at the Valley of the Golden Mummies to discover the history of the region, and later take a dip in healing hot springs.

Day 12 Bahariya Oasis/Siwa Oasis (1B, 1L)

Take 4x4s through the desert to Siwa Oasis. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the desert.

Get deeper into the desert, taking time to explore small villages and lakes. The possibility of having to push our jeeps out of sand bogs just adds to the adventure. Transport: 4x4 (7.00 hour(s))

Day 13 Siwa Oasis (1B)

Bike to the Mountain of the Dead and the Temple of the Oracle. Opt to take a dip in Cleopatra's bath or travel by donkey cart for a perfect desert sunset.

Explore the vast, maze-like ruins of the mud brick fort that overlooks Siwa old town. Take a short bike tour to the fascinating Mountain of the Dead and the mysterious 6th century BC Temple of the Oracle. Opt to take a dip in Cleopatra's bath. In the afternoon, choose to enjoy the hot springs and dunes or take a trip by donkey cart out to a small village for the perfect desert sunset. Day 14 Siwa Oasis/Alexandria (1B)

Journey along the coast to Alexandria. Soak in the European feeling of this Mediterranean city.

Travel along the coastal road to Alexandria. Enjoy a piece of Europe with its trams, cafés, and an amazing sense of history. Transport: Private Vehicle (8.00 hour(s))

Day 15 Alexandria (1B)

Take a guided tour of Catacombs, the National Museum, Pompey's Pillar, and Qaitbay Fort. With free time, opt to check out the city's cafés or dine on fantastic seafood.

Explore the catacombs of Kom ash-Shuqqafa, the largest Roman burial site in Egypt, the National Museum, Pompey's Pillar, and Fort Qaitbey. In the afternoon, use some free time to visit the sights of Kom el Dikka, the only Roman theatre of its kind in Egypt, and the Montazah Summer Palace, known for its peaceful gardens. Day 16 Alexandria/Cairo (1B)

Return to Cairo where the tour ends on arrival. Onward travel can be booked after 3pm.
