Indonesia Java, Bali & Lombok
Day 1 Jakarta
Arrive in time for an evening Welcome Meeting and optional group dinner. There are no activities planned for today so check into the hotel and enjoy the city.
Day 2 Bandung (1B)
Enjoy a guided city tour of Jakarta. Visit the former Batavia area, see remnants of the colonial past and tour the Sunda Kelapa Harbour. In the afternoon, depart for Bandung. Opt to see the traditional angklung orchestra. Approximate distance: Estimated travel time: 3 hrs (including stops)
Days 3-4 Yogyakarta (2B, 1L)
Morning train to Yogyakarta, with beautiful scenery along the way. In the evening, opt to take in a dance performance by the Ramayana Ballet. On Day 4, drive to Candirejo, a village near Borobudur. Here, experience the reality of a local village. Take a tour by horsecart through the village and see native customs, traditions and the agricultural system. Enjoy an included local lunch in the village. Later, visit the largest Buddhist sanctuary in the world, the Borobudur (1.5 hrs from Yogyakarta). Day 5 Solo (1B)
Drive to Solo, the traditional capital of the old Javanese Kingdom. En route, visit the Prambanan temple complex, a lavish example of ancient architecture. In the afternoon, opt for a bike tour around the region (3-4 hrs). Approximate distance: Estimated travel time: 2.5 hours
Days 6-7 Batu (2B)
Continue the journey across the agricultural heartland of Java to Batu, a large hill resort on the lower reaches of Gunung Arjuna, surrounded by volcano peaks. On Day 14, visit Mt Bromo (4 hr excursion), then enjoy a free afternoon with options to visit nearby waterfalls or wander around the village. Day 8 Malang/Sanur (1B)
In the morning, drive from Batu to Malang for a short flight to Sanur. Enjoy the final night with any group members departing the next morning. Approximate distance: Estimated travel time Batu to Malang: 3 hrs Flight to Sanur: 1 hr
Day 9 Sanur (1B)
Free day in Sanur to enjoy the beach. There is a welcome meeting at 6pm for anyone joining the trip here. Then. head out for an optional dinner with the new group members.
Day 10 Bedugal/Munduk (1B,1D)
The drive today ascends from the lowlands through rice fields and villages then lush tropical jungle. Take the chance to stop at the Angseri Hot Springs to bathe in therapeutic waters surrounded by nature (approx 2.5 hrs). After, continue up for another 30 minute drive over the mountains and into the caldera surrounding the town of Bedugal. Surrounded by serene crater lakes and majestic mountains over 2,000 metres tall, spend the afternoon exploring the sights including the Ulun Danu Temple Complex, founded in the 17th century by the King of Mengwi and dedicated to the gods of the lakes, before continuing to our overnight stop at Munduk. At 813 meters above sea level, the village of Munduk is surrounded by coffee plantations and boasts a temperate climate, much cooler than the beach areas. Tonight, experience true Balinese hospitality with a local dinner.
Day 11 Kintamani (1B)
Leave Munduk in the morning and travel along small local mountain roads, winding through jungle and terraced rice paddies. Stop at Blantih Village to see how traditional coffee is made. The next stop is at Tampaksiring for the chance to visit Tirta Empul Temple with its bubbling spring said to hold magical healing powers. Finally, arrive to Kintamani, perched 1500 metres above sea level on the edge of a crater overlooking Lake Batur, Mount Batur towering above. You may need warmer clothes here as the temperature is often much cooler then the coastal regions. Take a wander through town and mix with the locals, visit the market and marvel at the variety of local produce for sale.
Days 12-13 Ubud (2B)
This morning we have the option of a 2-hour guided hike up Mt Batur to view this active volcano and the panoramic views of Bali spread out below. After, visit the 22 temples that make up the 14th Century Besakih Temple complex, the preeminent Hindu Temple in Bali. Over 70 festivals are held here each year so don't be surprised to be caught up in one of these amazing events. Lava flows from the devastating 1963 eruption of Mt Agung narrowly missed the temple adding divine mystery to the location. Travel the short distance to Ubud, taking an orientation walk with your CEO upon arrival. Along the way, visit the Monkey Forest. Keep your valuables close as these cheeky creatures are bound to grab anything that isn't nailed down. Surrounded by scenic rice fields, small villages, art and craft communities, ancient temples and palaces, it's easy to see why Ubud has inspired painters, sculptors, poets, musicians and writers from all over the world. You too will be inspired by the laid back way of life, the beauty and the scenic splendor that is Ubud, the "heart of Balinese culture". Perhaps it's time to refine you culinary skills with an optional Balinese cooking class. In the evening, opt to enjoy a display of traditional Kecak dance or maybe try the Gianyar night market for some local cuisine. You could also take a stroll through the rice fields, chow down on some organic food or go whitewater rafting. Yoga is also a highlight here, with tons of classes in different studios and environments. Just outside of Ubud, choose to visit the Bali Zoo, the Bird Park or the Elephant Park to get a taste of the Southeast Asian wildlife. You might even see the rare Komodo Dragon!
Days 14-15 Candidasa (2B)
Drive to the resort on the coast and the legendary beaches of Candidasa for a swim and some time to relax. Opt to visit the water temple, Tirta Gangga. Choose to take a diving course or swim off the white sand beaches. This is also a great place to have a massage, take a yoga class or check out some of the more secluded beaches in the area. On Day 15, there is a welcome meeting at 6pm for anyone joining the trip here. Then, head out for an optional dinner with the new group members.
Day 16 Lombok /Kuta (1B)
Take the ferry to Lombok- the time here can vary depending on which boat turns up for the journey. (Fingers crossed for the express boat!) Arrive at the shores of Lombok and head to a traditional Sasak village. Meet the locals and learn more about their unique culture and way of life. Continue on to Kuta for the night.
Day 17 Kuta (1B)
Spend a full day exploring the fishermen's village and head out for a snorkelling trip before returning to Kuta.
Day 18 Kuta/Senggigi (1B)
Enjoy a spectacular drive through the middle of Lombok. Travel through parts of the forest on the slopes of the Rinjani Mountains.
Day 19 Senggigi/Gili Trawangan (1B)
Drive to Senaru and visit the Pusuk Monkey Forest. Later, make your way to a secluded waterfall with time for a quick swim. Drive to the coast and hop a ferry to Gili and settle in for a few days on the islands. The Gilis are paradise incarnate with a tiny population, no cars, and gorgeous white-sand beaches.
Day 20 Gili Trawangan (1B)
Enjoy a full day of white-sand beaches in the Gili Islands. Opt to go snorkelling, diving, horseback riding, or try some yoga.
Day 21 Gili Trawangan/Sanur (1B)
Spend the final evening with an optional dinner together, reflecting on the adventure under a beautiful Balinese sunset.
Day 22 Sanur (1B)
Depart at any time.
