9 days

Jordan is famed for its ancient past, but its present is pretty darn compelling, too. The natural and man-made wonders of Petra and Wadi Rum have been drawing travellers here for ages, but the rough-hewn grandeur of Jordan has remained a secret known only to the boldest of thrill-seekers. Trek the rocky hills to isolated villages along the trails near Ajloun, hike down canyons towards the Dead Sea and discover the Dana Biosphere Reserve. See for yourself why Jordan is a secret we just couldn’t keep to ourselves any longer.
  • Day 1 Arrive Amman

You are welcome to arrive in Amman at any time, as today is a designated arrival day with no planned activities. Please note that there will be an important welcome meeting this evening at our joining hotel. Please check the hotel notice board for more information on the location of this meeting or ask at reception. Please bring your passport and travel insurance documents to this meeting, as you will be required to fill out some important pre-trip admin documents. After learning more about our tour and plans for the following day, you may choose to head out for an optional dinner at a local restaurant with your CEO and traveling companions. Overnight in Amman.

  • Day 2 Ajloun (1B,1L,1D)

After breakfast we head north out of Amman to make a stop in Jerash. Enjoy an included tour of the famous Greco-Roman ruins that were inhabited in the Bronze Age. Continue to the less well known region of Ajloun. The most common image of Jordan is that this is an arid land covered in desert. Trekking in Aljloun Nature Reserve proves there to be more to Jordan than this. We transfer up to Ajloun passing through areas surrounded by woodland, olive groves and strong oak trees. This is not a well known area of Jordan, but its natural beauty is impressive. We stay overnight in the Aljoun Reserve and you will be treated to delicious local cuisine. The winter months will be spent in cabins, while the summer months are spent in bungalows. Approx travel times: Amman to Al Joun, 2hrs

  • Days 3 Wadi Mujib/The Dead Sea (1B)

We begin today with a short bus ride to Wadi Mujib, where we have spend the morning hiking, abseiling, climbing and walking down to the Dead Sea. The canyon of Wadi Mujib is the lowest nature reserve in the world, made up of rivers, canyons and cliffs that make up a natural playground for this thrilling canyoneering activity. In the winter (November - March) a dry trail is available called Ibex Trail (3-4 hours) and in summer (April-October) you can hike a wet trail called Mujib Canyon Trail (4 hours). These trails both offer spectacular scenery surrounded, with very different conditions for canyoneering. From Wadi Mujib we continue the short distance to the Dead Sea, where we can spend the evening relaxing.

  • Day 4 The Dead Sea (1B)

This morning we wake at the Dead Sea. The Dead Sea is actually a lake, without any from of life whatsoever existing in its waters. The water is so dense that it is practically impossible to sink, being five to ten times as salty as regular sea water. We base ourselves at a resort where you will have access to the beach. While swimming, cover yourself with the sea's mud, which is reputed to have special healing powers, and don't forget to take a photo of yourself reading a book while floating! You will notice that the salt penetrates any cuts on your body and has an unusual smell, but there are showers to wash off under after swimming. Afterwards, relax under an umbrella next to one of the fresh water swimming pools or enjoy the other facilities at your resort hotel. Why not indulge in an optional massage or one of the other range of health and beauty therapies available. Overnight at Dead Sea in a comfortable resort style hotel.

  • Day 5 Dana Nature Reserve (1B,1D)

Another of Jordan's hidden gems, the Dana Nature Reserve is an oasis among the golden expanse of the desert. Waking up within the Reserve this morning, we take a guided walk through the Reserve, following the Feathers Canyon Trail which leads us past Nabatean tombs to a breath taking siq. Dana is a diverse environment containing a wide variety of plant life, including many that are endemic to the reserve. There are also several endangered species here to keep an eye out for. From Dana we transfer to Petra where we spend the night.

  • Day 6 Petra (1B)

We have the next two days to explore the site of Petra. First, we head over to Al Beidha, also known as Little Petra. This site is literally hidden away in a mountain and this miniature version of Petra contains a number of notable tombs and offers a glimpse of Petra without the crowds. After exploring this site, we make the short trek over to Petra itself. The trail is approx 5km between the sites, and the excitement builds as you first glimpse the Monastery from your vantage point high above the ruins of Petra. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the site, before we head back through the siq to our hotel. Approx travel times: Wadi Rum to Amman, 3.5 hrs

  • Day 7 Petra & Wadi Rum (1B,1D)

After breakfast this morning you have the morning free to visit Petra again. Upon arrival at the entrance to the site you will begin an unforgettable walk through the narrow canyon that forms the dramatic entrance to the city (the siq), until you round the final corner and are greeted by the unforgettable view of the dramatic façade of the Treasury building. The site is large, but you can set your own pace depending on the weather and the interests of the group. When you have had your fill of Nabatean ruins, we drive to Wadi Rum, a vast, silent landscape of ancient riverbeds and the largest and most magnificent of Jordan's desert landscapes. There may be time this afternoon for a 4x4 trip into the desert Now the home of several Bedouin tribes, Wadi Rum has been inhabited for generations. These hospitable and friendly desert people are settled in Wadi Rum in scattered nomadic camps throughout the area. On arrival we head to our comfortable tented camp, where we will enjoy a traditional meal for our Dinner and learn more about this ancient culture. Be sure to keep a look out at the night sky here after dark. The absence of city lights means that the sky is dotted with stars, and you should have a really clear view. Overnight in tented camp Wadi Rum.

Wake up in the desert this morning and after breakfast there is time for an optional trek through the desert. Setting off from the camp we head to Khazaly Canyon, cross the Little Bridge and Lawrence Spring before returning to camp. In the afternoon enjoy the unique experience of going on an included camel trek, or if you prefer just relax at the campsite. This evening we return to Amman.

  • Day 9 Amman (1B)
