Amalfi Family Adventure
Day 1 Naples
Arrive at any time. Enjoy a pizza welcome dinner in the town which invented it- Naples.
Day 2 Pompeii/Amalfi (1B)
Travel by private transport to our accommodation in the town of Amalfi. En route visit the famed site of Pompeii, at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, near Naples. One of Italy’s best-known sites, this unique visit is an excellent way to understand how real Romans lived, worked and played. After a guided tour with an expert local guide, there will be some free time to explore on your own before heading some 30 minutes or so up the road to the crater of the volcano which caused it all- Vesuvius. After arriving, walk for around 45 minutes on a zig zagging path up to the rim of the crater with views into the steaming caldera and great views out into the surrounding countryside and the Bay of Naples. In the late afternoon, drive to our accommodation in Amalfi town where there will be time to settle in before heading out for an optional group dinner and your first taste of this region's specialities.
Day 3 Amalfi (1B)
After being fitted for a lifejacket, and a detailed safety briefing, we get into our sea kayaks and paddle along the coast. A journey of about 3 hours takes us past golden beaches, through natural rock arches and into hidden caves all along the Mediterranean. We stop at beaches that are only reachable by boat, and swim in the clear blue sea. This is a unique way to see the rugged coastline of Southern Italy. In the afternoon we return to Amalfi, where the rest of the day is free. Explore the winding streets of the town, head down to the beach to relax or try some of the delicious local cuisine.
Day 4 Sorrento/Amalfi (1B,1L)
Today we take a day trip to the beautiful coastal resort of Sorrento. Along the way we stop and learn about buffalo mozzarella. The highlight of today is a visit to our local friend Giusy's house, where you will learn how to make a real Italian-style pizza and then enjoy it for dinner. Naples is the birthplace of pizza, so there's nowhere better to try out Italy's signature food.
Day 5 Capri/Amalfi (1B)
Today we cross by private boat to Capri. A boat ride trip around the island will us past the harbour with it's whitewashed houses. Capri has been inhabited for centuries, and has become famous as a popular resort. After the boat ride across there is time to wander the harbourfront, and perhaps pick up a delicious gelato. We return to Amalfi by boat.
Day 6 Walk of the Gods/Amalfi (1B)
Probably the most famous walk of the Amalfi region, the ancient trail climbs along ridges high above the coastal towns of Positano and Praiano, once the only road connecting these two villages. The path can be rough underfoot and a little exposed but well worth it for the spectacular scenery and the chance to be so close to nature and "the Gods". The outstanding beauty of the Amalfi Coast can only be fully appreciated on foot. Follow ancient paths and trails linking isolated farms, villages, churches and monasteries. Most of the walking offers amazing views to the rugged coastline below with wonderful vistas from village to village. We begin our hike at the small town of Bomerano, perched high in the hills. From there, walk approximately 8km to the village of Montepertuso and eventually to Positano along sometimes narrow path with sensational views down to the sea far below. Walk past abandoned farmhouses and lemon groves, across high mountain pastures and through woodland, and finally down to hilltop villages and steeply down to the coast again. The last part of the path is on the main road and then down approximately 1300 stairs. This last part can also be done by public bus to save knees and ankles. The walk finishes in Positano where you will have time if you wish to explore the bustling resort. We'll then take a scenic ferry ride back to Amalfi.
Day 7 Amalfi (1B)
Departure day, depart at any time. A transfer to the airport in Naples is included.
