Volunteer at a special high school that teaches tourism training, conversational English and sustainable farming with free time for surfing, relaxing on the beach and watching legendary pacific sunsets. About this Project: The project at this technical high school provides students with practical skills in the farming, community ecotourism and hospitality. With lots going on, you will spend your time volunteering teaching English classes and participating in various activities. For example, one of the newer Planeterrasupported projects in the region is the recycling program, which not only separates plastic, cans and glass but transforms manure into organic fertilizer to be used in the project’s nursery. Talk about sustainable! A day in the life of a volunteer: •Spend half days volunteering as an assistant in English classes to improve conversational abilities of students learning tourism •Help out in the practice kitchen, the computer lab, in the dairy and cheese workshop, or in the tree nursery and recycling programs •Take surf lessons on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, one of the best places on earth to learn to surf! •In your spare time, learn about the onsite sea turtle conservation project, relax on the beach and take in the gorgeous Pacific sunsets.
  • Day 1 San José

    Transfer from San José airport to your San José hostel.

  • Day 2 Playa Matapalo (B,D)

    After an orientation talk about the project, transfer to the project in a shared shuttle, which will drop you off approximately 1km at the entrance to the project.

  • Days 3-13 Playa Matapalo (11B,11L,11D)

    Spend your half days volunteering at one of the various school programs. An English lesson schedule will be arranged with professors on your arrival. Help out in the practice kitchen, the computer lab, a dairy cow and cheese-making workshop, chicken coop, organic plantain plantation, a tree and plant nursery, teach conversational English or assist with the recycling project. In your spare time enjoy some non included optional activities such as surf lessons, visits to a sea turtle conservation project, relaxing on the beach and enjoying legendary sunsets.

  • Day 14 Playa Matapalo (B)

    Depart at any time. The volunteer project coordinator can assist you with organizing your return to San José or any continuing travel you may have planned. Add on extra weeks if desired, with no maximum length of volunteering.
