Throughout your time on the programme, you will be helping with homework, preparing posters and educational resources, tidying the centre and playing games with the children. A lot of the work focuses on making children aware of how to keep safe, from teaching them how to identify different forms of violence to making sure they know their rights. Severe weather is a very real threat in this part of Mexico, so you may also be involved in advising children of safety measures to take during a hurricane. You will be living with other volunteers in a house or apartment, and will share a room and bathroom. Weekends are yours to enjoy all that the Riviera Maya has to offer. Visit Mayan ruins, including Tulum, Coba and Chichen Itza, snorkel in a cenote, explore the Caribbean’s magical reefs or just take it easy on the white sand beaches of Playa del Carmen.
