This active walking and hiking trip connects you with one of North America's most scenic nature trails at the very height of its eye-popping glory. As you walk, delve into the region's unique cultural heritage.
  • Day 1 Boston/Franconia State Park (1L, 1D)

Our trip starts in Boston in the morning on Day 1. After meeting your CEO and catching up with your group, there's a bit of time in the city. This is the ideal time to go over your packing list and see if you are missing anything, as Boston is an ideal place to stock up on any missing equipment. From Boston, we drive to Franconia State Park, a drive of two and a half hours. Once in the park, we have a short hike this afternoon along the trail to Lonesome Lake and Cascade Brook, part of the Appalachian Trail itself. Overnight accommodation - camp

  • Day 2 Franconia State Park (1B, 1L, 1D)

A full day hike today, as we attempt the trek to Mount Lafayette. A round-trip hike, following the Appalachian Trail along the Franconia Ridge Traverse, this is a fairly straightforward hike. The trail takes us up a steep climb alongside Dry Brook, passing several waterfalls along the way, including the fantastically named Swiftwater Falls and Cloudland Falls. There are panoramic views along the hike, taking in the surrounding White Mountains. Keep an eye out for the Presidentials, named after former US presidents. Tonight we stay in a mountain hut up on Mt. Lafayette Overnight accommodation - mountain hut Approx. distance hiked - 9 miles.

  • Day 3 Franconia State Park/Mt Washington (1B, 1L, 1D)

After waking up this morninto a hopefully clear view across the White Mountains, we begin our hike after breakfast back down Mt. Lafayette. it is a shorter journey back down the mountain, following the Old Bridge Path. Views out over Franconia Ridge and Walker Ravine are our reward on the hike, before we reach the trail we walked yesterday and continue downhill. The afternoon is free to explore the area. One option would be to visit Flume Gorge. At the foot of Mt. Liberty, this 800 foot long gorge is filled with flora and with the changing season is a great place to watch the changing colours of the leaves. Overnight accommodation - camp Approx distance hiked - 4 miles

  • Day 4 Crawford Notch State Park (1B, 1L, 1D)

On the morning of Day 4 we transfer to Crawford Notch State Park. There are a wide variety of trails that you could follow through the park here. Depending on the conditions, we hike out in the shadow of Frankenstein Cliff, passing Arethusa Falls along the way. The start of this trail is on quite rocky ground, but it soon opens out into hardwood forest. There are great views along the hike of Crawford Notch, the Presidentials, and Mt. Washington. Approx distance hiked - 4 miles Approx. transfer time to Crawford Notch State Park - 1hr 30 mins Overnight accommodation - camp

  • Day 5 Mt Washington (1B, 1L, 1D)

We've kept the biggest hike for our last day. On Day 5 we climb to the summit of Mt. Washington. There are a number of challenging trails that criss-cross the mountain, and we will choose the right one based on the conditions and weather at the time. This is a rocky and rugged path whichever we take to the summit, so this can be a challenging climb in places. However, the rewards on reaching the summit are views of the surrounding countryside bursting with colour. The Appalachian Trail in autumn is renowned for vibrant hues of gold, red, brown and orange as the leaves start to fall and the trees prepare for winter. From our vantage point atop Mt. Washington (1917m) we will have one of the best views in the region. Approximate distance hiked - 8-10 miles Overnight accommodation - camp

  • Day 6 Mt Washington/Boston (1B)

Transfer to Boston. Tour ends upon arrival.
