Head into the Rockies and Banff National Park. Orientation walk in the town and visit Tunnel Mountain, Bow Falls and Lake Minnewanka. Option to ride the Sulphur Mountain gondola, white water rafting, canoeing or swim the hot springs. Banff is located in the oldest Canadian National Park. After only 30 minutes’ drive from the prairies, you will see these impressive mountains facing you with great rocky peaks. You could easily imagine the challenge the first explorer had to face in finding a trading route over this massive range. From the small village of Banff, we will explore the area and enjoy easy walks: visit Tunnel Mountain, with views of the Bow Valley and river, and the Banff Spring Hotel. We also drive around Lake Minnewanka and keep our eyes peeled for Rockies wildlife which can include: goat, black bear, deer or elk. Day 3 is at your leisure with numerous optional activities to choose from: stroll through the town shops, catch the Sulphur Mountain arial tram, go hiking or white water rafting or rent a canoe. Drive the famed Icefields parkway taking in the towering mountains, turquoise lakes, waterfalls and glaciers. Stop at Athabaska Glacier and Columbia Icefields where we take a thrilling icewalk. In Jasper, option to hike or cruise Maligne Lake or go rafting on the Athabasca River. Drive along the celebrated Icefield Parkway to Jasper. Along the 300 km ride, a spectacle unfolds before our eyes: lush coniferous forests, immense mountains, turquoise lakes, high-falling cascades and humbling glaciers. Numerous stops will be planned along the way for photos, observation and wildlife encounters. At Columbia Icefield, we enjoy a glacier walk with an expert guide on the lower Athabasca Glacier to explore and understand the life of this active glacier. Walk on this glacially carved landscape, observe small crevasses and stand in the middle of these impressive mountains surrounding you. We reach Jasper later in the day. Jasper's friendly mountain hospitality, peaceful low-key atmosphere, and the promise of real adventure make any visit unforgettable. Here you have many options for your free time: walk along the Maligne Canyon, one of Jasper's most spectacular landmarks. Eroded by the fast-flowing Maligne River for thousands of years, it is only one meter (three feet) across in some places, but over 60 meters (200 feet) deep. Or, take a self-guided interpretive trail with several bridges, which follows the canyon as it courses towards the Athabasca River. Choose from a scenic cruise on Maligne Lake up to Spirit Island or a rafting/float trip on the Athabasca River, a historic river used by explorers and fur traders. Scenic drive visiting Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and the emerald blue waters Lake Louise. Spend 2 nights at a western guest Ranch with 2 hours of included horseback riding, and cowboy western cuisine. Option for addition horse and trail riding, whitewater rafting and treetop ropes and zipline or relaxe at the pool. Back on the Icefield parkway we stop at Peyto & Bow Lake, two beautiful blue-green lakes along this magnificent road. In Lake Louise, we take time to savour the emerald blue waters and breathtaking scenery of Victoria Glacier. Walk along the lake or take an optional tea at the famous Chateau Lake Louise Hotel. Our destination today is Kananaskis area where we will settle into an authentic guest ranch of Western Canada. On our arrival, take a walk to explore the site, the outdoor chapel, the country church, the museum of First Nation and Western history, the stable and take a beer in the country lounge before we enjoy our first cow boy dinner at the Ranch. On day 7, we head out for 2 hours of horseback riding. A local expert guide will match you with one the of great mountain trail horse selected specially for you. On your western saddle, you will experience another way to explore the beautiful surrounding (those choosing not to ride can enjoy the morning at the ranch at leisure). After lunch, you could choose from one of the many optional activities offered on site, a whitewater rafting trip on Kananaskis River or the Treetop Rope & Zipline, or simply relax around the pool. Drive to Calgary and take an orientation tour of the city. Option to visit Olympic Park. Spend your last morning in the Rockies at the ranch before we drive back to Calgary where we do a short city tour. Calgary is bustling with museums, theatres, art galleries, fine restaurants and shops. Famed for its entrepreneurial spirit and youthful population, the city prides itself on being the heart of the new west while honoring its cowboy heritage. Approximate Distance: 90 km Estimated Travel Time: 5 hrs (including an orientation tour of Calgary)
