Chile Earthquake - April 2, 2014
A very strong earthquake measuring 8.2 magnitude at a depth of 20 km has occurred in off the coast of Chile. The epicentre of the earthquake was located at the coordinates 19.642°S 70.817°W 95kms Northwest of Iquique, Chile

• 95km (59mi) NW of Iquique, Chile
• 139km (86mi) SSW of Arica, Chile
• 190km (118mi) SSW of Tacna, Peru
• 228km (142mi) SSE of Ilo, Peru
• 447km (278mi) SW of La Paz, Bolivia

This initial earthquake has been followed by a series of aftershocks including one measuring 6.2 magnitude, further aftershocks are anticipated.

A tsunami warning was issued initially for the entire Pacific Coast of Latin America but this but has now been downgraded to just Chile and Peru. Small Tsunami waves have been detected.
The initial reports indicate that landslides have blocked roads and some buildings have been damaged, and there are reports of power failures. The media are reporting that 5 people have died and several people are reported to have serious injuries.

Kenya: Nairobi Grenade Incident- April 1, 2014
Six people have been killed and several others injured in what are believed to be grenade explosions in the Eastleigh suburb of the city of Nairobi in Kenya.
Media reports suggest that the devices appeared to have been thrown towards a bus stop and a food kiosk as people made their way home for the evening.
It is believed that the two incidents went off some 50 metres apart on 11th Street, and some of those be caught up in the attack had serious injuries. The Kenyan police suspect it was a grenade incident.
The FCO has not updated the travel advice to reflect this incident, but the current FCO travel advice for Kenya advises against all but essential travel to areas within 60km of the Kenya-Somali border; to Kiwayu and coastal areas north of Pate Island; to Garissa District; to the Eastleigh area of Nairobi; and to low income areas of Nairobi, including all township or slum areas.

Winter Storm Cleon - December 4, 2013 
Winter Storm Cleon is expected to bring areas of heavy snow and ice into the Rocky Mountains, North Texas, the Midwest and southern states through the end of this week. Travelers should be prepared for flight delays or cancellations, and we highly suggest checking your flight status on the operating carrier's website before going to the airport. Some airlines are providing waivers for travelers with plans through he affected regions.

Malaysia Resorts Travel Advisory - December 1, 2013
The US Government has issued a warning against travel to and residing on the Malaysian resort islands of Mabul, Pom Pom, Kapalai, Ligitan, Sipadan and Mataking, as well as the peninsular Lahad Datu district (to include the Tabin Wildlife Reserve).

Shooting at Los Angeles Airport - November 1, 2013
Police have confirmed an armed incident at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Travelers on flights to and from Los Angeles should expect flight delays or cancellations, and we highly suggest checking your flight flight status on the operating carrier's website before going to the airport. Japan Tsunami  - Added 25th October

A small tsunami triggered by a quake has hit Japan's eastern coast as of 4:00 a.m. local time on Saturday, October 26. Australia Bushfires- Added 17th October- Updated 21st October

A number of bush fires are currently burning in the region of New South Wales, Australia. The Blue Mountain area, west of Sydney has been significantly affected. Other bush fires of concern are in the Hunter Valley, Leppington and Wyong.

North of Newcastle, a fire at Heatherbrae has closed the Pacific Highway and Newcastle airport. A fire burning in the Southern Highlands near Balmoral and Yanderra, has closed the Hume Highway near Mittagong.

It is reported that there has been some structural damage, and disruptions to power / electricity in the region. There are currently no reported fatalities. There are reports that smoke from these fires can be seen over Sydney and Newcastle.

Fire services and crews are currently in place to try and control the spread of the various bush fires.

Customers on holiday in the region, should be advised to monitor news reports and follow any advice or instructions issued by the local authorities or their accommodation providers. The US Embassy in Canberra has advice on their website regarding bushfires. Please see an extract of the advice below:

Bushfires

Be aware of the risk of bushfires, especially at the height of the Australian summer (November to February). Check with local state authorities for the latest bushfire information: Victoria; South Australia; New South Wales, Tasmania, Western Australia, Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory.

Italy Strike Action- Added 17th October

We have been made aware of industrial action taking place in Italy on 18th October 2013.

From the information we have received this strike action will potentially affect air traffic control, and other transportation services including public transport, trains and ferries.

It is been reported on the NOP website that air traffic control will commence strike action at 1100 and continue until 1500.

The Euro Control NOP website, has issued the following statement.

We have received notification of industrial action affecting ATC on the 18th October between 11:00 and 15:00.
NOTAMs A6840/13 and A6841/13 refer.
NMOC will hold a teleconference on the 17th of october at 12:30 UTC.

NMOC Brussels

Media reports are suggesting that the train services throughout Italy will strike from 2100 on 17th October, for 24 hours and local public transportation including buses and taxis, will also strike at various times throughout the day. It is also reported that ferries to Sicily and Sardinia will strike for 24 hours, but the commencement time is unknown.

Customers due to travel are advised to contact their airlines and travel providers regarding any disruptions to their travel arrangements.
