South Africa

From Eastern Africa, the interns headed south to Cape Town for an amazing 8-day trip along the coast!

Soak up South Africa:

Day Where What's Goin On
1-4 Cape Town The interns spent two days volunteering at a township outside Cape Town working with abused children and children affected by HIV.  On the third day, they did the strenuous hike up Table Mountain to enjoy lunch and the amazing view of Cape Town and the Indian/Atlantic Oceans.  Day four, they enjoyed a day touring the Winelands, tasting the famous South African Pinotage and local cheeses.
5-8 Up the coast The second half of their South African adventure included a journey up the eastern coast (aka the Garden Route) via the Baz Bus, the well known hop-on, hop-off bus system in South Africa. The first stop on the route was Herminus, a lovely beach community where the interns spent a day shark cage-diving with the Great Whites. The second stop on the route was Plettenberg Bay for more adrenaline activities. Chris took the plunge off the largest bungee jump in the world at Bloukrans bridge while Lindsay opted for the 10,000 ft sky dive over Plett Bay. They spent the final day exploring the beaches and enjoying the wildlife at Monkeyland and the Elephant Sanctuary.
