Round the World – Sydney

With the year coming to a close, you might be thinking New Year, new you. Or perhaps, more likely, new year, new adventures to embark on! Whether you’re wanting to tick off your ever-increasing bucket list, visit friends and family, or are just plain nosy and want to know where we would go on the ultimate ‘Big Trip’.

We thought travel inspo couldn’t get much better than this, but we’ve been experimenting with a UK tech start up, who are dividing the WHOLE word into 57 trillion 3m x 3m squares, and assigning each square a unique 3 word address.

Flinders Street Station? We think you mean decide.chair.tribe. We’ll see you outside the London Eye.

A picture tells 47,727 miles of stories. A film highlights it in 120 seconds. We sum in up in three words…

Next stop, sudden.mouse.highs. It’s time to let the video do the talking…

1. Sightseeing in Sydney Harbour

Home to the Sydney Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, Royal Botanic Garden and the historic Rocks area, this is good news for the chronically lazy – many of Sydney’s icons are right here! Climb the ‘Coathanger’ (Sydney Harbour Bridge) for insane views; go backstage at the Opera House, one of the most popular music and arts venues in the world; or swan around the harbour on a yacht pretending you’re a millionaire. Player.

2. Chill on Bondi Beach

And now, chill. It’s time to get barefoot, preferably with some beers. All easy-going beachside charm, Sydney’s most iconic surf beach, Bondi, is only a 25-minute journey from the CBD. Get up on a board (preferably in the ocean), grab some brunch, walk the coastal path to neighbouring Coogee or beach yourself on the famous white sands and enjoy the view. Aussie life is tough, deal with it.

3. Explore the Blue Mountains

Blue Mountains
Recovered? Good. Time to get wild. Just two hours from Sydney are the famous Blue Mountains. Taking their name from the blue tinge on their slopes, these beautiful mountains are a glimpse into the untamed terrain of Australia. They’re also the perfect place for anyone who wants to get a little active! Climb, cycle or walk along rugged mountain trails. OR, take the steepest passenger railway in the world to the top? No judgement here.

OK so who exactly are

Basically these guys are on a mission to make the world a more efficient, less frustrating and safer place. How exactly are they doing that? They are addressing the world with a unique combination of just 3 words. So forget postcodes and co-ordinates, the whole world is mapped by 3mx3m square and each square (all 57 trillion of them) has been pre-allocated a fixed & unique 3 word address. Hence ‘sudden.mouse.highs’ at the start of the video. Starting to make sense now?

what 3 words

Why though?
Because around 75{1e29904c885515873022ed5b62c6c7d923686363a219a3c356dc5ccea4ad6161} of the world is addressed inconsistently, parcels, letters aren’t being delivered, tourist attractions or places aren’t being found and people are getting lost. Three words give the world the ability to talk about precise locations as simply as possible.

Simple. As. That.
