If you haven’t heard of it or watched it already (who are you, and what are you doing here?) Queer Eye is about 5 fabulous gay guys driving around the southern part of the USA, making over straight guys. And now we, at STA Travel HQ, have a total obsession with them. Watching it gives us happy tears, warm fuzzies, and has taught us 101 new ways to use an avocado.
So, we thought what better way to celebrate Pride, the release of Queer Eye Season 3, and our love of Antoni, Jonathan, Bobby, Karamo and Tan, than a travel-related Queer Eye blog. So here are our 15 lessons:
No excitement in the world will compare to the exhilaration you feel when you’ve just booked your Round the World adventure.
It doesn’t matter how filthy a mixed drink tastes in an Asian dorm, if it does the trick, drink it. (Sangsom, Redneck Margaritas, we’re looking at you).
Hostel bathrooms never get any easier.
Hiring a scooter? Going to blaze down the Hai Van Pass? Of course you are. Repeat after us. HELMET. INSURANCE. HELMET. INSURANCE.
You’ve always got to be optimistic, even in the face of not-so-optimistic situations. Like when the outside of your hostel looks like a dirty shack, or the questionable restaurant you’re about to walk in to.
Hangovers in a hot country are not the one.
After a few weeks of slumming it, you really do feel like a million dollars after having a clean shower and getting dressed up for a proper night out.
They eat really weird things in some countries – not gonna lie, but fried tarantulas are not for us. Stop trying to sell it to us.
At least one dorm room mate will bring home a friend for the night and you’ll be woken up in the most horrific way.
You’ll find out new things about yourself that you didn’t know before. No, we didn’t go away to ‘find ourselves’ but…
It takes about 15 seconds to make a new friend in a hostel.
And become instant best friends.
The goodbyes will be the toughest…
But you know, one day, your paths will cross again because you couldn’t imagine life without them.
Sexy, sassy, bold, brave, open-minded and a hell of a lot more attractive… in every sense. You will be so proud of the person you’ve become at the other end of it.
Fab 5 – you’ve entered our lives and warmed our hearts. You keep doing you, HUNNAAAAAY.
