Cebu and Bohol

Travel Guide

Cebu is home to the Philippines busiest sea port as well as the most spectacular diving in the Philippines. A beach lovers' paradise, Cebu is at the heart of the Visayas, where white sandy beaches and whale sharks rule. Just a short ferry ride from Cebu you can explore the chocolate hills of Bohol and spot cute bug-eyed tarsiers in the jungle.

Top things to do in & around Cebu

  • Chocolate Hills
This group of uniquely shaped hills are probably Bohol's most famous tourist attraction. Supposedly formed by coral deposits and the effects of rain and erosion, this is a geologist's dream attraction.
  • Diving on Panglao Island
Alona Beach on Panglao Island offers some of the best diving in the area. If you're lucky you'll see turtles and whale sharks!
  • Dolphin watching in Pamilacan Island
Book an early morning dolphin watching trip in Pamilacan Island.
  • Nights out in Cebu City
Whilst Cebu city may seem unattractive with the jeepney fumes and traffic jams, it has a thriving restaurant and bar scene to explore.
  • Homestays in Bohol
Get an authentic taste of life on Bohol with a homestay. Live with a family for a few days and give something back to the community at the same time.
  • Mactan Island
Find beaches, scuba diving, seaside resorts and a good nightlife on Mactan Island.

How to get to Cebu

You can fly to Cebu from all over the Philippines. As the Philippines busiest sea port, you can also catch a ferry from pretty much anywhere. Use Cebu as your base to explore the surrounding Visayas and Bohol.

Best time to visit Cebu

This area of the Philippines has been unlucky with typhoons and earthquakes, but is now in full recovery mode. The best times to go diving are in April and May, whilst January is the coolest month to explore.
