The capital city of Egypt is Cairo. This extraordinary city is located on both banks of the River Nile and home of the Giza Necropolis, Egyptian Museum, Khan el-Khalili and Cairo Citadel.

Where to go in Egypt?

Take a trip to Hurghada where you can unwind on sandy beaches and soak up the gorgeous sun. If you fancy some excitement, Hurghada also offers snorkeling opportunities for beginners so why not take a dive and explore the stunning coral gardens of the Red Sea.

A cheap meal in a Egyptian restaurant averages at around 60.00 EGP, so not much more than a beer! Street food is very popular in Egypt, and it can cost as little as 5.61 EGP (approx 35c). Local delicacies include Egyptian Sandwich, Ful Medames (nutritious mushed fava beans) and sweet Basbousa cake.

Egypt visa for Americans: How to get a visa for Egypt?

If you're visiting Egypt as a tourist, you would need a visa. Visas obtained on arrival at Egyptian airports are valid for 30 days. Your passport must be valid for 6 months after you plan to leave Egypt. If you plan on staying longer than 30 days - contact the Egypt embassy for more details.
